Swapping Domains and Google Rankings

I recently changed over a domain name for a site of mine and used 301 permanent redirects to point to the new domain. I had done this exercise a year previous and found the switch to be pretty painless it took about 2-3 weeks for the new site to come online and reach its previous search performance.

The experience this time has been slightly different. The new domain, at present, has very poor results in Google where before it was in the top 3 for most appropriate key word queries. It's now 6 weeks on and it seems like the site's ranking is returning, but only slowly. It looks like there is an incremental effect over a period of time??

Fingers crossed the full ranking should return soon. :-)

P.S. MSN and Yahoo picked up and reflected the change within a few days.
