Getting a site onto the open directory project takes an age. Anyway, why would you want to submit your site to www.dmoz.org? Well I’m not sure how effective it is in click through rates but it can give your page rank a healthy boost and automatically include you in other directory listings around the web, which is all good news. So here is my experience so far...
After submitting a site a month ago I decided to contact the editor to see if I could gain some insight to how long the process would take. The response was quick, under an hour and very informative. I was made aware of the huge backlog of sites, some 27,000 in the shopping sections, and the editor politely suggested I consider becoming an editor myself, so that’s what I did. I’m not sure I’ll be able to fast track my own submission but I don’t mind helping out as long as I don’t end up with an inbox stacked 3 feet high with site submissions. So the current state of play is no dmoz listing and I’ve made some more work for myself, hmm we’ll see how this one pans out...
